I don't know if it's a generational thing or if it's a "Hey, I'm new to the internet!" kind of thing, but good lord. You'd think an upvote on a post was about to change someone's life the way people ask for them like penicillin after a night spent with a prostitute. Rather than trolling people's comments with mindless requests, why don't you try to interact with the post? Why don't you interact with the actual person posting? Better yet: go create content people want to read. I promise that's the best way to get people to upvote your stuff. Asking me to upvote your content or follow you because you've followed me doesn't endear me to doing either action. It tells me you're lazy and can't be bothered to actually put in the work required to build a following. Steemit is just like many other social media platforms in that, sure, you can be as fake as you'd like...but if you're not producing things people want to read or see, then nobody's gonna care. Step up your game. Spend more than two seconds copy/pasting the same comment on thousands of articles.
