As mentioned in my previous post, I'm a sucker for reverse proof designs. The frosted background and mirrored finish on the main subject really make it extra appealing to me. I also like to collect limited mintage pieces, which reverse proof coins almost always are, so it "hits the spot" for me.

Before we get too far into this post, I spun the wheel for yesterday's "Finally, Friday!" contest. There were only two entries:

Now back to the coin! I picked this up in the Inflation Mitigation Lounge. It was originally a reverse proof set with this and the Type 2 American Silver Eagle. I personally don't care for the new design, and they were willing to break up the set, so I only bought this one.

The obverse design depicts Lady Liberty walking, carrying a bouqet of oak and laurel, with the American flag draped around her. This design was originally released on the Liberty Half Dollar design, but was so popular it was resurrected for the American Silver Eagle.

The reverse of the coin depicts the American eagle underneath thirteen stars, representing the original 13 colonies. The eagle is holding an olive branch in one talon, and a bundle of arrows in its other talon.

I originally paid $207.50 for this. Looking at prices now, you can buy them for around $180-210. I probably could've gotten it cheaper haggling on eBay, but this was something I didn't want to miss out on, so I paid a little extra. This is a piece I don't intend to sell, so my kids can decide what they want to do with it when I'm gone.
