[Activity Pub](https://activitypub.rocks/) has created a new way to build platforms for sharing content. However, Mastodon is a social interaction network with a huge influx of new users Twitter. The new users are trying to learn the difference in acceptable behaviours and practices. 

One of the big differences is you cannot be verified. Since there is no central authority on the fediverse, there is not way to verify identities. 

"But what if I am a _big deal_? How will people know I'm the _real_ me?"

Here's a solution. You're Big Name. You own bigname.com and your fans know it. You can host your own single-user Mastodon instance at iam.bigname.com so that you can be big@bigname.com for your full handle.

Besides, if you're _actually_ a big deal, then you can probably get someone to help you set up your own instance, right?
