We had a brief respite from the gale force winds and rain today, so I had chance to go and visit my Mum. Unfortunately I wasn't taking her  good news - her father passed away last week. To be fair he did well, he outlasted his wife (my Grandma) by 15 years and my Mum by three years and three months. Anyway she didn't have much to say about it, probably too upset.

After reflecting for a while with mother, I took a walk around the rest of the grave yard - it was eerily quiet today despite the relatively dry weather. I suppose this Angel statue fits the mood quite well, an impressive tribute to a man that passed away in 1904 - it's stood the test of time well too.

Something to brighten a dark day, the flowers are starting to push through - a sign winter is already on the way out.

But the skies are still moody, it really makes you think when you pass through a Graveyard how fragile life is - so many people that have been and gone, it makes me wonder how many people still remember them.

It also makes me wonder what in life really does matter, do we ever really make the best of the finite time we have or just fritter it away trying to achieve goals we rarely ever reach...

The bigger monuments you presume were people of some importance, although I wonder if they rest any better knowing they have that weight above them.
