0.000 HBDTOO LATE!
“…stay away from the privacy of the dead, else they will come hunting you”. These were the words of my supervisor on my third day at work as a staff with the funeral chapel. I watched as families and individuals came by to pay their respects and for the remembrance of their deceased loved ones. As a number of people came and left, the acts of an unhappy, grey and aging man stole my attention as I watched him scribble on a piece of paper while standing before a framed condolence portrait of a very beautiful woman deceased at 63. I stood patiently and watched as he dropped the note beside the frame and walked away. I could not but be moved by curiosity as I went closer to see what was written on the note and I learnt the biggest lesson of my life. It read; I am overweighed by regrets for the times I took for granted Times I was ruled by pride and hatred If I had told you what I feel Maybe it would have changed my life’s wheel I was so scared to fall in love deeply For fixing my broken heart will be uneasy I have journeyed that path before Another day there I couldn’t take anymore But why is my heart crying in pain I feel my heart has become so plain Should I have told you that I love you? Should I have showed that it’s true? Maybe I should have fought harder For the one that made my heart grow fonder But for the courage I lack And the fear of not being loved back They say some words are better left unsaid Emotions should be left till they fade Damn all that cowardice and negativity Saying what you feel is the real bravery But it’s too late for this rhyme Cause now you’re gone and you’ll never be mine Just as I was about to catch the name of the of the old man at the foot of the note, I got startled by my supervisor who snuck up and spoke …stay away from the privacy of the dead, else they will come hunting you. If you love someone, please speak up today while you still can.
