0.000 HBDBeyond Metals : The Most Prized Possession in the House - WE159
**Do you have metals stacks at home?** Yes I have, we have. About a hundred. <div class="text-justify"> ----- It’s another beautiful weekend, another opportunity to do things we love outdoors, and a chance to do and try new things. Just like me now! Well, I wasn’t able to spend my weekend outdoors unfortunately because I got sore eyes (both of my eyes) and its super red so I have to cancel outside activities, however, I was able to try new things this Sunday and that is to participate for the first time the #weekend-engagement writing topic. As usual, sir @galenkp never failed to provide interesting topics that one could use for a meaningful weekend blog. And this weekend’s engagement topic that caught my interest, and heart rather is the first topic which is, >Gold and silver Do you stack **metals**? Share one or two of your favorite, unusual, or rare pieces and tell us about them. Write a post of 300+ words and the photos must be your own. **Yes, I have, we have, over a hundred.** ##### Our Most Treasured Metals I think everyone has a corner in their house where valuable items or possession where displayed. It could be a display of an expensive painting from renowned artists, rare collections, antiques, and precious metals! We also have them in the house and although they don't come with high value in the market but my mother considered them the **most prized possession** she ever have! And that's our precious medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) that we acquired as achievement and recognition during our school days. Those medals hanging on the wall for over two decades now are the rewards I and my sibling got for excelling in class, winning local competitions, and doing outstanding performances in extra-curricular activities. These circle metals might not be as huge compared to the National and World wide achievements like the ASEAN Games and the Olympics yet these small metals mean the world to us as this made us witness how beautiful our parents' "soft cry and smile" looked together. I remember how the Closing exercise, Recognition Rites and Graduation Ceremony excites me because I know I will be receiving medals on stage. This was one of the ways I knew to give thanks to my parents and make them proud. I know these metals that are slowly consumed by rust are not enough to show how grateful and blessed we are for how our parents tirelessly worked just to send us to school and let us finish College despite hardships and poverty. <div class="pull-left"> </div> <div class="pull-right"> </div> **Old but Gold - My favorite** Among the precious metals I received, my top favorites were the Philippine Senate Gold Medal for Academic Excellence bearing the Official Seal of the Senate of the Philippines, and the Giant Gold Medal which is sadly eaten by rust but I remember this was the Medal I got for graduating as Class Valedictorian in class. Lastly, the Gold Medal comes from one of the prestigious and my dream universities in the city, having this medal means I have a full grant of Scholarship offered by the university however, I wasn't able to avail of the offer because it's too far from home. <div class="pull-right"> </div> <div class="pull-right"> </div> **Not mine to keep but my Mother's".** For a long time in my mind, I thought those little metals hung on our house's wall were mine because they represent my achievement( *not all but most of them*) not until I moved to my own house that I learned who truly owns those items. When I told my mother that I'd be bringing my medals with me and displaying them in my house, she firmly responded with a powerful **"NO, these are my Gold"**. I didn't know if she was joking or what but I could see the sincerity in her eyes. **"But those are not true Gold Mother"**, I added and laughed. "**Yes, they are not but they are more precious than Gold or any metals this earth could possibly have** And every time I looked at them every day (mother placed the medals in our small living room), it reminded me how successful I am of parenting you and your siblings and on how I and your father couldn't feel a hint of weariness and exhaustion way back then when we send you to school. Your siblings and you made our **sacrifices all worth it."** I was speechless of my mother's answer, it is true then that "The only wealth parents can give their children is an education." I may not have the medals with me, but I have my education as a fruit of my parents' labor and sacrifices. And yes those tiny metals are not real Gold and Silver but they are priceless and the most valuable metals we could give to our parents. It was a mistake to claim that those are my rewards because they are the rewards my parents deserve for giving us their best! And they will be hanging there with pride until the passing of time. ____ That's it for my entry for this #weekend's engagement topic by sir @galenkp which made me rekindle some good old memories and most especially share our mother's most valuable possessions. Thank you for reading guys! Happy weekend and have a great week ahead! Don't forget to smile often!🤗😍 </div>
