Lessons learned when starting to use Steemit

Lessons learned on day 1 of steemit

Be aware of the editing time-limit of stories/blog posts.
You may not be able to edit your post after a payout has been made from that post (less than 24hrs)

I'm considering composing text in another editor first, especially as there is not presently a "save as draft" feature. Further, a check of how the story turns out immediately after posting may be useful to spot any incorrect markdown or HTML.

Images
Image files are not directly uploaded to steemit as they are in other social media platforms. Instead, you can upload to an image/file hosting service and add a link to the image on that hosting from your story. In markdown mode an image is inserted using ! [ ] (url-to-image-on-web)

Tags
Each story may have a space delimited list of tags. Use the steemit search function to find stories that would be in a similar category as yours and find what tags they use with their post. The tags help your audience find relevant posts.

Start exploring the steemit community and remember to upvote any posts and stories you come across that you appreciate.
