Do we have anywhere to run?
When Marc and I decided to quit our jobs and go on some extensive travel to Asia, we never imagined that the world would turn into an apocalypse , shortly after we hit Bangkok at the beginning of December.

It was in China where the "virus" started and we were close by but figured it would be no problem. Soon it would all be in the past.

We decided to book a flight over a month ago to go back to Canada from Paris because we got an incredible deal. With the savings we would get a chance to explore a city that is known for art and beauty along with good wine.

Boy were we in for a surprise. I messaged a former co worker who now lives there, asking her if the transit strike was over and if I should buy a coat. She said the strike was over but there may be a stage 3 which I pretended to know about. I realize now it must have something to do with a lock down of some sorts. I am not a fan of mainstream news so most of the time I don't bother.

We have to board this flight if it is still going, on the 30th of March and we have to be out of Thailand on the 27th when our 30 days runs out. The funny thing is we have entered Thailand twice now on a one way ticket which is not recommended. They didn't ask.

Good thing because we don't know if we are going to Paris for the days before the flight. In fact we are more uncertain of our plans now than ever.

Yesterday we were talking to Marc's mother through Skype and were told that everything in Montreal is closed except for supermarkets. My daughter in Vancouver says everything is closed there as well. The schools are closed which unfortunately never happened in all my years of forced indoctrination camp.I would have been ecstatic since I hated it so much.
Going back to Canada is not thrilling. We were planning to travel as digital nomads for as long as we could. It's our own fault that we never found a way to do that and slowly are spending our savings away.

But what makes it worse is what we thought would be a hype free country to return to, is not that at all.

Ten years ago Marc and I did a photo composite for fun. A fantasy of an apocalyptic world where two people find refuge and are safe to take off their masks. I never understood why we put the masks into it, but now it seems that life in someway, has imitated art.

We have absolutely no fear of this "virus" but instead my fear is of living in a more controlled world where the authorities and self proclaimed handlers can do anything they want to us under the guise of protecting us. You can scream at me until you're blue in the face, but I don't believe for a second that these "powers" have our well being in their best interest whatsoever.

I suppose I could interpret this picture in a more positive way and say that it represents the end of doom and the beginning of a life where we are not afraid to do one of the most important things for our bodies. Breath.

Hopefully we will see people's smiles again especially here in Thailand known as the land of smiles. I just hope I make it back someday to see that.
