It was a cold Monday morning, I arrived the over populated MBA 1 lecture room in ofrima for my GES 100 lecture and as usually the hall was already crowded, excited year 1 students chatty, full of excitement without any knowledge that the university of port Harcourt is ready to chew them up and only the fittest can survive to be thrown up.

The purpose of coming early to the class which was to get a good sitting spot so I can hear the lecturer was already defeated; apparently I wasn’t the only one that wanted a good spot. I wasn’t all too happy but I couldn’t do anything about it, so like the loner I was, I took a sit at the second-to-last roll, and hoped to God I would get a few things from the lecture. After one hour plus of lecture, the crowd was finally dispatching to the places fresher’s go, I finally had some peace and quiet or so I thought. I took out my note to read but the noise makers directly behind me would not let me. I thought to myself; what is it with boys, football and excessive bragging. I was upset so I turned to face the noise producing monsters and ah to my surprise I had met one before. HARRISON, I was like dude chill out with the arsenal gist or reduce your voice joor and the fellow beside him was a stranger to me but he has been ranting about MANU with a kind of passion that was cool and alarming all at once so it was befitting to call him MANU and I was like MANU reduce the noise a girl is trying to read. I never asked for his name, MANU became his name to me, and I could tell he liked it.

So every time I see him, mostly in passing, it was always MANU, and I was pretty sure he didn’t know my name too.

SOMETIME IN 2013

February 16, 2013 I broke up with someone and it was sad, but life goes one. Fast forward to 20th I was done with classes and was talking to EDDY, what the conversation was about I do not remember but it was obvious he liked me and wanted more, well this chick was not interested and he passed. MANU walked by, and like I always do I called out and he stopped I was grinning from ear to ear, he came by said hi to the fellow next to me and turned to face an d man I was still grinning. On some kind of cue, eddy left and immediately manu put on his game face.
He said, “we should get passed this stage, you have been calling me MANU for almost two years”
And the conversation that followed was this;

Hi I am CATHERINE

I am EMMANUEL

You don’t look like an Emmanuel to me. He asked what Emmanuel’s looked liked and I said churchy and he was like, and I don’t look churchy? In mind head I was like, you look like red velvet cake dipped in chocolate and caramel, imagine the sugar rush but oh well that was my thought, he need not know. So we talked a little more and his friend came over to tell him something about a class I presume, then he asked if I had a boy and I told him not as of two days ago and he goes, so you are available?

I was intrigued; he has been a funny part of m y life for two years, so I did the girly thing and my answer was this, “I think so”, cheesy right?
He was like, so can I apply?
I am like, can you apply?
At that moment I laughed, and a looked crossed his face, I could tell a thought crossed his mind but I had no idea what it was.

He said, do you have a number? Can I get your number? Is it safe to have your number?
I said, my numbers blows off phone, and I laughed. I think he liked the way I laughed, I gave him my digits and he promised to call.

It was love; it was real while it lasted. But like most things it had an end.
