El nono Juan, nunca fue bueno demostrándonos su cariño, pero en el fondo nos quería. De niña me encantaba ir a su casa en el campo y pasar las vacaciones jugando con mis hermanas entre los árboles, los perros y escuchando al nono contar historias. 
 
El nono trabajaba en acueductos rurales, así que viajaba mucho por la región andina de Venezuela llevando el agua potable por tuberías a los caseríos. 

En uno de esos viajes por el Páramo de la Negra, en el estado Mérida, debía instalar una tubería para un caserío que estaba por un desvió de la carretera principal. Fue allá por unos días con su ayudante.

Ese agosto de 1955, pasó un invierno fuerte. El nono y su ayudante, se estaban quedando en la casa de los Morales. Los alojaron en la sala, que tenía una cocina de estufa en el centro y la familia dormía alrededor para mantenerse calientes.

Eran las 11 de la noche, cuando el nono escucho que le sacaban el aire a los cauchos de la camioneta. Se levantó rápidamente y la neblina no dejaba ver nada. El señor Morales le dejó muy claro que eso era imposible.

Volvieron a la cama y a los 15 minutos el nono escucho unos muchachos riendo, corriendo y persiguiéndose alrededor de la camioneta. Se levantó molesto a regañarlos. Cuando llego afuera no había ni un alma y el frío calaba los huesos. Rápidamente entró y se puso cerca del fuego. Los Morales le explicaron que en ese pueblo los vecinos más cercanos estaban a medio kilómetro, eran un par de viejitos que no salían de casa desde el 49.


Cerca de la media noche escuchó unas señoras que se subían a la parte de atrás de la camioneta y comenzaban a rezar en coro. Llamó a su ayudante y emprendieron el viaje de regreso a Táchira. Fue muy difícil ya que la neblina estaba muy densa, pero se encomendaron a los santos y llegaron a Táriba para el amanecer. Al entrar a la casa, la nona estaba desesperada, pues su hermano, el hemofílico, estaba muy grave y el nono era quien traía el medicamento desde el estado Mérida. La nona lo recibió con alabanzas y diciendo: 

-Sirvieron mis oraciones a las ánimas benditas, te trajeron milagrosamente, mi hermano necesita urgente el medicamento que traes-

Nono Juan, was never good at showing us affection, but deep down he loved us. As a child I loved to go to his house in the country and spend the vacations playing with my sisters among the trees, the dogs and listening to Nono tell stories. 
 
Nono worked in rural aqueducts, so he traveled a lot in the Andean region of Venezuela bringing drinking water through pipes to the villages. 

On one of those trips to the Páramo de la Negra, in the state of Mérida, he had to install a pipe for a village that was on a detour from the main road. He went there for a few days with his assistant.

That August 1955, it was a harsh winter. Nono and his assistant were staying at the Morales' house. They were housed in the living room, which had a stove stove in the center and the family slept around it to keep warm.

It was 11 o'clock at night when Nono heard the air being sucked out of the truck's tires. He got up quickly and the fog did not let him see anything. Mr. Morales made it very clear that this was impossible.

They went back to bed and after 15 minutes he heard some boys laughing, running and chasing each other around the truck. He got up in annoyance to tell them off. When he got outside there was not a soul and the cold was bone chilling. He quickly went inside and stood near the fire. The Morales explained to him that in that town the closest neighbors were half a kilometer away, they were a couple of old men who had not left the house since '49.


Around midnight he heard some ladies getting into the back of the truck and beginning to pray in chorus. He called his assistant and they started the trip back to Táchira. It was very difficult as the fog was very thick, but they prayed to the saints and arrived in Táriba at dawn. When they entered the house, the nona was desperate, because her brother, the hemophiliac, was very ill and the nono was the one who brought the medicine from the state of Merida. The nona received him with praise and said: 

-They served my prayers to the blessed souls, they brought you miraculously, my brother urgently needs the medicine you bring-
