I thought this table captures the important points about the latest Corona virus and helps to keep things in perspective. We need to take into account both the virality as well as fatality rates. People compare it to the flu which while it kills a lot more people, is only fatal in 0.07% of cases. MERS on the other hand kills 1 in 3 victims but it isn't as viral. While it may seem like an over reaction, if previous pandemics have shown, the only effective way to prevent or stop one is to quarantine. It's coming to one and a half weeks already and I do feel the strain of staying at home for so long. Unfortunately there seems to be no signs that this will slow down till March. Luckily schools and offices are closed till then, helping to stem the spread. Can't imagine schools being open now... There would be panic and contagion.
