Hey Steemians

Since today is [Bitcoins Birthday](https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@chekohler/proof-of-keys-starts-to-expose-exchanges-bitcoin-turns-10-years-old) I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the past and have some fun with it.

For those of you who have been around for more than a year on Steemit you would have seen the insane bull run we had with the steem price hitting as high as $8.43and SBD hitting $10.55

**2017**

If we look at the price of STEEM in 2017 on 03 Jan, it was a 19 cents

**2018**

Fast forward 1 year to 2018 and we're sitting pretty at  $8.43

**2019**

This year we're at 28 cents and while thats a far reach from the highs its still good to see that there is growth compared to two years ago and the currency has become a little stronger (32% up on 2017).

## Experiment time

Let's have a little fun experiment, shall we? 

I currently have: 

* 1711.545 STEEM x $8.43 = 14 428
* 5.301 SBD x $10.55 =  55.92

For a total of $14 484 or in South African Rands my local currency it would be R202 779. Dang, das a lotta mun knee! What to do, what to buy? Hmmmmm!

**I could get a car**

So I could probably choose from [cars under 15K](https://www.motortrend.com/price/0-15k/). While not the best investment or the nicest cars, not many people can afford a new car with their salary so being able to buy it with crypto is pretty crazy if you think about it

**I could go on a holiday**

According to this [post](https://maxyourfreedom.com/spend-15000-vacation/) I found 15K USD could easily get me a cosy trip to Spain for 2 months or South East Asia (Thailand, Singapore and Indoneisa) for a month

**I could reinvest it in traditional finance**

I know this is a boring one but in a South African bank putting 15K USD in a savings account would net you about $73 per month compound interest for doing basically nothing. Which isn't great but hey its money for nothing right?
