Disillusioned And Distorted Signs of Value
Hey Leaners of Jess

Do me a favour? Ask anyone who works a full-time job if they are getting paid enough and they will be met with a resounding no! Everyone wants more money and they can get it but what they really want is more money for less work. Everyone feels like they are underpaid for the value they bring to the company or their clients and so many ties their value to their paycheque.

The stable salary has blinded many a worker to their actual value, some feel entitled to a certain number regardless of what they do. Let's say I'm the coder at Facebook I should learn more than a coder at a startup because the company is bigger and makes more money. Even if my code doesn't really do as much as the code the startup developer is righting.

We align our values to the size of the company and the bigger the company the more we think what we do actually mean something within the greater context of the entity. The funny thing is as "safe" as corporate may seem it isn't being a cog in machine means you can easily be pulled out, from the clearner to the CEO no one is really impossible to replace.

## Wage worries

If you take the time to look at Google search trends you'll see how many people think they are underpaid or want to know if they are underpaid, it's almost a staggering amount of seach queries which inspired me to write this post.

The reason we don't know our worth in the marketplace should be an indication we do not live in a free market economy but regulated corporate socialism. Cash is handed out based on arbitrary metrics to all within the state of the company and its masqueraded by performance or value they bring to an entity wouldn't miss them for a second.

We see people complaining that men get paid more than women, whites get paid more than blacks with studies I don't even know how they provide any sort of merit and don't even make sense. The real issue is not that certain people are paid less than others its that certain companies are allowed to dictate payment at all.

## Show me the money

You don't know what your profession is worth because you never went out there to sell your profession to a willing buyer. You sold it to any buyer willing to give you a salary so how can you dictate what you're worth? You complain about the CEO or Boss that does nothing but gets paid more than you but you don't leave the company and try to compete. You don't try to use your skills and assets you've acquired to go out there and serve people.

So who are you to say you work hard? You work safe! Who are you to tell someone else you should earn more money? Tell yourself that and go out and get it.

You might just find out you are worth a whole lot more, or you might just find out you're worth a whole lot less. Choice is yours!
