It's been some time since I posted about STEEM or Dapps but I read post and decided to check out dClick and I saw something that got me thinking.

I've been in the online advertising space for a few years now on both ends. Using ad platforms to sell products and services or creating publishing spots for people to advertise on. I've used numerous services but Facebook and Google dominate this space by far.

## Attracting value to the STEEM ecosystem

As a community and a currency we cannot simply rely on the price of Bitcoin or the trading volumes to give STEEM a value. Just like every other cryptocurrency community we need to look at generating revenue from other cryptocurrencies as well as fiat currencies and attracting a steady flow of income into our STEEM ecosystem.

The more money flows in, the more freedom dApps have to build, the more users we attract and the bigger the platform will become. 

## Attracting authors based on value 

@dclick offers an opportunity for authors to earn a steady income via their content. I think its been proven that authors looking to make money don't really stick around for upvotes and donations so why not let them earn money by attracting users to our site.

That way the onus is on the user to create content that gets views and clicks and not only relying on the opinion of communities and high stake users.

dClick needs to become the AdSense of the STEEM blockchain.

## Building a network to sell attention 

What makes AdSense and Facebook ad networks so powerful is not just that they have a platform with millions of users but that they allow other sites and apps to run their scripts and become part of a bigger network of selling attention. 

* Facebook has the wider **Facebook audience network** of publisher who allow Facebook Ads to run on their system. Dating app Tinders' ads for example runs on the Facebook Audience network

* While **Google AdSense** monetises YouTube as well as millions of independent blogs from around the world 

There are already [cryptocurrency ad exchange](https://www.nichemarket.co.za/blog/money-talks/earn-crypto-wordpress) available today but they have the same restrictions centrealised ad exchanges have. They do not have a base to work from and rely on recruiting bloggers into their ecosystem of which many aren't technically inclined to make the most of the ecosystem. 

They often rely on large publishers like news sites for most of their traffic. 

## The Steemit Network - Income Source 1

The STEEM blockchain offers dClick a platform to work from and expand just like Facebook and Google has done with their ad platforms. Instead of having to publish via dClick Steemit users could soon drop in a little script or short code into their posts or a dApp like @steem-plus could help with an improved UI and make it seamless to add your ad code into posts.

Now that we can edit old posts authors can add the code into old posts too. This will make each post a potential ad spot and is now a potential source of revenue for STEEM by the choice of the author.

## The Steemti dApp Network  - Income Source 2

Popular dApps like @steemmonsters, @dtube, @partiko, @actifit, @esteem and @busy.org all have audiences of their own and this trend will continue to grow over time. As new dApps are built they all attract new users to the steem blockchian. 

Dapp owners can then ask its users for consent to show ads earning. This will net dApp owners an additional income and allow for highly specific niche shares. 

For example fitness brands can advertise directly on ActiFit and ActiFit Steemit authors and tagged posts and get very specific targetted messages to interested users.

## The STEEM Publisher Network  - Income Source 3

The third step would be to look at brining in exteranl sites inot the network. We can firstly look at authors blogging on their own sites using the @steem-press application and get them to integreate dclick ad slots into their blogs manually or through the help of a WordPress plugin.

Then we can look at targetting users with DoubleClick For Publisher/Google Ad Exchange accounts and offer dClick as a another Adnetwork to compete with adSense for clicks.

This final step helps dClick open up to a much larger auidence and bring in a range of new sites/bloggers/users and of coruse revenue into the system.

## Taking control of ad distribution

Once we've established the various networks for advertisors to spread their message across the dClick portal will become increasingly valuable. 

Steemit account holders who will want to advertise will need to upload their accounts with steem. This could be done via @blocktrades helping them add the steem account with STEEM via other cryptocurrencies or @steem.ninja can allow users to buy STEEM via credi card and power up their STEEM account with STEEM to be spent on ads. This now helps pump more money from other cyrptos and fiat into STEEM.

Once their account is filled with steem they can then assign a budget and daily spend and date range for their ads.

The user can then select the places they would like to advertise as mentioned earlier.

* Author ads
* Steem dapp ads
* External ads

In future dClick can offer greater granularity on where ads are posted in those 3 publishing streams.

## Users/Dapps taking control of their ad space

What will really set dClick apart from other social media/publisher ad networks will be by allowing the user and dapp creator full contorl over when ads are served and how they are served

**Ad content control**

Authors and dapp creators should be able to state the categories of ads they are willing to promote to match their content. This will not only drive improved clicks of ads as they remain relevant to content but also to avoid mishaps we've seen with YouTube like Gambling ads on religious content etc.

**Author direct ads**

Authors and dapps should also be able to use their ad slots as they please to promote direct ads. For example if Steem Monsters has dClick ad slots they can opt to not promote external ads and promote hteir own ads at no cost to them or a mix of the 2.

This is also great for authors who want to promote their latest post on old posts and so on.

This makes dClick slots even more valuable as it becomes a verstile promotional too.

## Revenue share models

Other ad networks only offer users a set ad revenue share example publishers get 68% while Google pockets 32% and theres no way else. dClick can offer a share range model where users can select the revenue share they are comofratble with based on a range. 

For example dClick can offer a 65% split to author in the begining and as the account becomes more valuble/holds more SP they can scale back the split to a 70,80, 90% split to the author. 

The bigger the account and authority the more likley they are to get better traffic and sale of slots.

This also combats users trying to set up muliple ad accounts to try and spam the system.

## Ads can offer an alternative to bid botting & the trending page

People bid bot for many reasons but the main reason for many of those on the trending page are to get as many views, clicks and engagments as possible. They bid bot their posts up to the trending page and this piece of real estate is one of the most coverted on steemit/steemit dApps.

Having the dClick network of ad spaces/publisher spots available authors can promote their content across steemit posts and dapps and gain massive traction and reduce the dependency on the trending page and bid bots for promotion.

Authors with cash to promote get what they want in attention and traffic while dClick, dapps and other steemit users share in the rewards/ad revenue generated and thus distributing the wealth to more users much faster.

## Improving income and STEEM distribution and retention

Once we have a Network where users can buy and sell their inventory at will and instantly using the capablities and speed of STEEM blockchian we could see weath following in and redistrbuted faster and easier than any community project, curation project, delegtaion project or giveaway ever could.

Content will also hold value to the blockchain well after it is produced as those ad spots will provide a continued source of revenue for authors who have used the STEEM blockchain. So even once authors defect they would still bring in money to the system as well as perhaps encouraigng users to stay even if they dont get the upvote or donation rewards.

## Improving STEEM account sign up & use

There are well over a billion blogs on the interent and millions more apps, some gathering dust while others go unmonetised. dClick gives these sites and apps an opporunity to become part of the STEEM ecosystem. 

To use STEEM as a way to earn money, transact and bring more value into the ecocsystem all with the power of a steem account. Then once we bring these users in via dClick they now have a means to interact with all the other dapplications we have in the ecosystem.

## Intergration is key for STEEM

I think id dClick gets the backing it needs from authors and dApp creators to build this network I think we will really have a winning solution that solves a lot of STEEMs problems and gives all of us some much needed growth.
