Weekly Rant: Let’s stop complaining and start building

Every week or two I feel the need to release some of my frustration on a written rant, why is this?

## Because I don´t understand why people get paid to blog and have the nerve to complain about it.

Here are some of the things I have read that bothers me:

**1. - Newcomers don´t really receive any money and are discouraged to keep posting:** well this is not entirely true, sometimes first poster can earn good money, you can check out @betamusic as one example. But yeah, most newcomers don´t get much upvotes but this is normal. If I was to open a Twitter account today I would have no followers and therefore no retweets no mentions and no likes, I would have to build up my audience trough different ways, it is the same in steemit. So instead of complaing and threatening to quit why don´t you first focus on building your follower list?

**2. - Rules are being changed all the time.. is just not fair:** In a democracy if a group of citizens are against a specific law they can collect signatures to have it change. In many countries gay people can now marry, abortion is now legal and so is medical marihuana; this was all possible because rules were changed. If this is possible in a society why should we stick to the same immutable rules in steemit?

**3.- Only English post do well:** Ok, this is something that I have been personally working on, trying to help Spanish writers get their words read by the more people. However, this is true for the whole internet; I used to write in English over at Medium because my posts got more views. Steemit doesn´t even have 2 months yet, communities need to be built over time. On the bright side we are already seeing a lot of Chinesse, Russian and Spanish posts.

Don’t get me wrong, it is not that I don´t see the obstacles that Steemit has for mass adoption, I could tell you a bunch of things that I think need to improve: from distribution to the interface. But I do like to put things into perspective, just a couple of weeks ago we had nothing, we now have more than 70k users and growing.

Let´s all build the Steemit that we want; the platform gives us the ability to do this, we can discuss and vote on the witnesses that better represent our views. Critics are good as long as they are constructive.

Let’s be positive but above all things, don´t lose perspective of things.

Stay humbild.
