But more and more hackers are already targeting quite different industries and devices, such as X-ray and MRI scanners, Forbes magazine reported. Cyan Security Company Symantec has detected a new hacker group. It is called Orangeworm and its main target for the time being are health institutions and hospitals in the United States. But the group also attacks hospitals in Europe and Asia. The Orangeworm attack is quite specific. It is not aimed at stealing patient data. Instead, it targets the devices that receive and analyze the photos and results of these scanners, the purpose of which is to learn more about how they work. According to Symantec, it is about corporate espionage. Up to now, hackers just collect information from devices and show no indication of other intentions or attempted sabotage. Of course, experts do not rule out that this can happen at a later stage, and just just collect data in preparation for another attack. The hackers have made a "worm" that is named Kwampirs. It has the ability to download and install additional modules and thus modify its functions according to objectives and situation. Modules can be specially designed for a specific target only. It is also used in systems that help patients to fill out consent forms for performing certain medical procedures. Symantec has also found that Orangeworm is not attacking only medical facilities. The group has chosen very specific targets, and since 2016 has attacked companies in the IT, manufacturing, agriculture and logistics sectors. The Orangeworm is a high level of protection. Group data is minimal, not even knowing its nationality. Symantec believes that it is very unlikely that it is sponsored by a government. According to the company, it is a very small group of people or even one person with very specific goals. So far, however, there are no indications of the origin or location of the group.
