My Thoughts on Day 2 of the Democratic Convention

A new star was born at the Democratic Convention on Tuesday, much like Obama launching his career in 2004. Tulsi Gabbard, Representative from Hawaii, just won the hearts of 12 million Bernie fans by nominating him for President

At 35, Gabbard has a long career ahead of her. She was the vice-chair of the party during the 2016 primary season but resigned in March stating "It's very dangerous when we have people in positions of leadership who use their power to try to quiet those who disagree with them. When I signed up to be vice chair of the DNC, no one told me I would be relinquishing my freedom of speech and checking it at the door."

I was very impressed by how genuine and well spoken her speech was among the rest of the bland and often erratic speeches. To anyone watching, she grabbed their attention and held it tight.

Sanders' nomination will not change the results. Hillary will still be the nominee, barring a gigantic unforeseen turn of events. But the nomination means the vote has to be counted, and that will again highlight the deep divides that exist in the party. It will only alienate the 12 million Bernie or Bust supporters, votes Hillary will need if she wants any shot at taking down the Trump train.

The stage is set for the short term. It's Trump vs Hillary. But politics is a long game and Tulsi Gabbard is playing it very well.
