Infrastructure
I`d had so much to tell but it would take too much time.

I´ve been to Fulda, a very nice city in the middle of germany.
Google maps told that it would take about 3hrs drive to get there. But instead it took me more than 5 hours.

Germany has a big problem with its highways and bridges.
The government spent a lot of money but not for the very important infrastructure.

I think I ´ve seen a video from an angry american truck driver who complained about the numerous potholes in the road.

So, we´ve got similar problems as others in other countries.

The asphalt covering is porous due to the massive trucks with 40 tons and more. Gernany is a transit land. From south to north, west to east and vice versa - hundreds of thousands trucks and cars.

And no money to spend for the maintenance of the roads.

The only thing they (the state) do is speed reduction - oh yes, that´s very helpful.

Normally there are two to three lanes at each direction. But in the road construction zone they reduce them to one or two. This causes jams, several miles long.

Hundreds of bridges are in a bad status. Each ramshackled bridge is one road construction zone. And if you want to travel 300 - 400 km one has to cross dozens of bridges.

In combination the potholes in the road plus the ramshackled bridges yout get an idea of the fun for driving in Germany.

To be fair, we´ve got a good railway system. Better than in most other countries. And the Intercity Train is fast; between 200 km/h to 300 km/h (about 125 miles to 190 miles per hour).
Every city has a station even smaller ones.

But the train isn´t cheap - not comparable with the costs of driving a car (perhaps for very long journeys - but in this case planes are more efficient).

So, normally the germans - as me - take their car and get into the jams.
Rush hour in Germany is between 07.00 - 09.00 a.m. and 5.00 - 7.00 p.m. (with exceptions as cologne - they have rush hour 24/7).

So, if you plan a trip in germany with a fast car as a Porsche, then check information about road construction zones, the speed limits and the local rush hours. Otherwise it is very likely that yout get with your 500 PS Porsche in a jam and all the horsepower can´t help you to advance faster than a little Fiat with 50 PS only.

Have a good trip!
