# <center>Miss Klay</center> 

Sometimes artists experience art blocks or moments when an artist don't know what to create out of his artistry, creativity and imagination. Well, that is how I understand it. And to get over it, an artist can get inspirations on social media from the trending topics, celebrities, events, shows, and the like.

Since **Maria Clara and Ibarra** was aired in Philippine Television, it has been the favorite topic of the netizens! It has become an everyday trend in twitter, facebook, and tiktok. And that was the reason I started digital painting with the characters. I started with [Maria Clara](https://peakd.com/hive-156509/@christianyocte/digital-painting-of-maria-clara) and now **Klay**.

**Klay** is a nickname of Maria Clara. It is being used popularly in the TV series to make distinction of the two Maria Claras in the show. Klay is played by no less than Barbie Forteza, a very good actress in the Kapuso Network. 

In the show, Klay is a nursing student in the modern times who was punished by his professor for not taking seriously his Noli Me Tangere subject. The punishment is bringing Klay inside the book or novel written by our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. She was not paying attention in the subject because she did not see any relevance in her nursing course.

Since, I cannot retell how the story runs. I just want you to do the tv marathon yourself. I can assure you that you will be in loved with the protagonists and hate the antagonists in the show who portrayed their roles equally well.

Like my previous art posts here, I did this painting using Procreate, a drawing application exclusive to IOS users, and of course with my iPad.

1. I looked for a [photo reference from Pinterest](https://pin.it/4phYRoJ/).
2. I added a drawing guide or a grid to the reference photo I downloaded using procreate app. To do this, I imported the photo to the app on a canvas that I would use for my art, then I selected the wrench icon, then clicked canvas, then toggled on the drawing guide. I usually set the grid to 200. Then, I screenshot the photo reference with the grids on it. That was a long process in text, but it only takes less than a minute when you do it.
3. I created a new canvas. For my portraiture, I like using 3000 x 4000 px. I also use RGB as the color profile.
4. To be guided in my painting, I used the drawing guide option like in step 2 and imported the photo reference with the grid on procreate. To import, you have to click the wrench icon, then click canvas, then toggle on the **Reference**, and then import the photo from the gallery.
5. I started the painting process. You may watch the video timelapse for the whole process.
     * I sketched the form of the subject using a default red painting brush on one layer.
     * I added the base color of the face then worked on the eyes, nose, mouth, and the cheeks. It is very far from being realistic, but I like to make it that way.
     * I proceeded in adding the hair using other brush present in the app. I did a lot of smudging her. 
     * I then worked on the clothes, adding shadows and highlights and some details.
     * I finished my art by deciding what would be my background color.
