Ever since I started learning about/earning Crypto on Steemit I have always wondered one thing. ### What is the safest way to store our funds safe when there are malevolent computer hackers who will try anything to steal your private key? I have witnessed this happening on Steemit with my friend @samstonehill who got his [master key stolen](https://steemit.com/steemit/@samstonehilltube/samstonehill-has-been-hacked-and-cannot-be-re-accessed-how-did-this-happen-and-what-are-the-solutions) by a transfer from a hacker into his Steemit account. Fortunately @samstonehill was [successfully recovered](https://steemit.com/news/@samstonehill/thank-you-steemit-for-finding-a-way-to-retrieve-my-samstonehill-account-from-hackers-together-we-are-stronger) before any funds were stolen from him. ### What is really safe? We must examine the different types of wallets available for use today... ### Online Wallet (Exchange) These wallets are often called ***hot wallets*** because they are always online. You can access your wallet from anywhere at anytime. However, these hot wallets are very vulnerable to attack. If your exchange is hacked, you probably will not see your Crypto ever again. ### A big mistake on a large online Exchange The first way I learnt to withdraw funds was to send SBD/Steem to Bittrex. Once I have sold the funds I would have Bitcoin sitting in an exchange. I then read about Mt. Gox The below video will explain what happened... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2ku1A5Ox8U #### Nearly $500 Million dollars of Crypto was stolen. I most certainly do not want this to happen to me so I got a desktop wallet immediately. #### Desktop Wallet The wallets which you download onto your computer are far more secure than the hot wallets. This does not mean they are impenetrable! Hackers can easily steal your funds if they find a word document which you use to store your private key. #### Paper Wallet (Cold Storage) That is pretty damn secure! Your password and an optional QR code is printed on a piece of paper. This is great for long-term storage but makes it a big pain to trade or use your coins as a medium of exchange, which is what they were made for all along.

## Hardware Wallet (cold storage) When using a hardware wallet your funds are securely stored offline unless plugged in and prompted to exchange by you, the user. Through all my research I believe hardware wallets are the most secure option out there to store your Crypto. ### I checked a few of the hardware wallets out and realized there are so many different options #### I had no idea which hardware wallet I should get!

#
This Is Why I Want Community Input
##
Do you have a suggestion for a hardware wallet for @chron?
### Please leave your opinion in the comments. I would love a hardware wallet which allows you to program additional currencies, like the Ledger Nano S. ### I have a flexible price range, but would like to keep it under $250 if possible. --- Images: [1](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-bitcoin-exchange/cryptocurrency-exchanges-coinbase-bitfinex-down-idUSKBN1E620E), [2](http://www.newsweek.com/bitcoin-mark-karpeles-mt-gox-exchange-cryptocurrency-709242), [3](https://coincentral.com/exodus-wallet-review/), [4](https://www.techjuice.pk/cryptocurrency-wallets-explained/), [5](https://www.amazon.com/Ledger-Nano-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B01J66NF46), [6](https://www.edenpr.org/Page/2240). --- #
*Who is @Chron?*
 ###
@chron is a 16 year old robot-headed Steemer, currently based in Bali, Indonesia.
