Gun-Control: Why it's a bad bet - weighing the pros and cons
![gun2a9995.jpg](https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/30/gun2a9995.jpg)

Many people are advocates of gun control, that is, the infringement of property rights by using the threat of violence from government - in order to attempt to make a society more peaceful. Of course everyone wants to live in a peaceful society, however, using violence, or the threat of violence, in an attempt to create peace isn’t always a great idea.

Let’s analyse this. In one scenario, you have:

1.1. The possibility that people may murder or perform other crimes using firearms;
1.2. The possibility that many regular peaceful people may defend themselves, and others, using firearms, thereby countering many bad actors from 1.1; and
1.3. No certainty that anyone will be threatened.

In the scenario proposed, you have:

2.1. The possibility (but not any guarantee) that murder or crime using firearms may be reduced (but not murder or crime in general);
2.2. A restricted possibility that regular peaceful people may use these weapons to defend themselves; and
2.3. The certainty that regular, peaceful people will be threatened.

Creating the **POSSIBILITY** of savings lives, by creating the **CERTAINTY** of threatening peaceful people is fundamentally unjust, absurd, and just an all-round bad bet.
