The problem now a days many married couple are facing is that their financial goals are different. I know a couple where the Husband earns a good amount whereas the wife is a homemaker. The husband wants to save as much as possible so that he can retire early but the wife wants to spend lavishly. The wide wants to travel internationally, try to spend as much as possible in the home interiors and what not.

So the problem is that there is always a friction between the two. And they cannot do both whole heartedly. And that's why having a financial discussion with partner is so very important. A lot of people now adding financial discussions at the time of prenup itself so that none of them get surprises after the marriage. Also after the marriage it's the responsibility of both of them to come up to a middle ground. 

For example, in the above scenario itself if both husband and wife comes up with a goal of saving as well as discretionary expenses per month than the friction could be avoided. Like the husband can save some amount for his retirement whereas he can also save some amount for travel as well as spending. Both the savings should be done according to the goals so that their married life would be smooth.

So the financial discussion should revolve around how much to save, what's the goal for the future as well as what other goals as a couple will have. Now the thing is might be both the partner would be working or might be 1 is working so they have to create the goal keeping that in mind. The final thing is that both should be aligned for the goal, if they are mlt aligned then that goal will not be finished or there will be friction in between partners.
