Yes,I think children should be required to learn certain things. A child needs to be able to count, write and recognize their letters,write and recognize their numbers, be able read and do math.

If a child cannot write and know what their name looks like how will they be able to learn the things they are involved in or even be able to sign their names.  Or if they can not count how will they know how to pay for things. If they can not read how will they be able to study things they are interested.

The problem is learning needs to be fun for the children.  A child interested in cars you can teach them how to count by counting cars. The same cars can be used to teach colors and sort by sizes.  The alphabet and phonics can be taught by fun songs and playing games with the children.

I do have to say I teach a free class to the children, that the goverment pays us to teach the children.  There are things we are required to teach and test the children on.  That does not mean it has to be boring.  children love to play in sand so we can have children write their names in the sand and their numbers too.

## There was a time in our history that women were not educated. They only learned to do what their mothers did. At that same time boys only went to school for a short time and learned to do what their fathers did.  Do we really want to go back in time where people were   educated less? ##
