A community can be a group of persons living in the same place or society sharing something in common. Community can also be a group, small or large unit of social organization or platform with common interest, goal, views, action in different aspect of life.

A community doesn't necessarily have to be living together, what is most important is the common interest shared. Communities can be established inform of platforms, such as social media, schools, church, market, occupation, hubbies, etc.

Steemit as a platform is a community. Bringing people of different ethnics, tribe, culture, race to share a common interest. We all know our common interest on Steemit: blogging to interact, inform and educate.

## What is the essence of a community?
Human Nature: It is very important to belong to a community. As human, our inquisitive desire to know more than we already know is insatiable. The human nature is wired as a dependent nature. It is a nature that is created to rely on someone or something, to survive. The community is design to provide us with what we want, and also help our dependent nature.

Building: There is no individual or unit that can grow on its own, we need people, facilities product to make us grow. A community helps in growing us into the individuals we desire to be. That person you need to mold you into your desired shape belongs to a community. Hence community socializing is important in building who we are and who we intend to be.

Learning: There is a popular saying that "no man is an island". This is very true, and more true than you can imagine. As humans created and born into the world, we all have intellect and IQ inside of us. Do you know these intellect no matter how good and unique it is, it cannot develop on its own despite its capability?

"Come to think of it, can you think of anything, substance that can start growing or functioning on its own with support? Not even the things of nature such as water, earthquake, volcanoes, hurricane, etc. something causes them to develop."

So are we humans, we need support to develop, improve and become productive. This is were the community comes in, it provides for us what we need to learn and become productive.

Consumption: Ok, let me agree with you, you have it all and you can do all things by your self. Now you have all the intellect and you become very productive. My question for you is, who consumes your product?
Oh now you see the need of belonging to a community.

## What does a community have to offer

Interaction: A community offers room for interaction. When you interact you share ideas, exchange opinions, get different understanding from several views. People learn to interact and communicate in communities. We learn how to relate with people of different backgrounds. Interactions improves us psychologically and mentally.

Friendship: Community offers friendship. There is no better place to make friends than in a community. This sort of friendship is easy and very beneficial, reason been you share common interest.

Support: Community offers support. You will agree with me that the easiest way to get support is from who understands and share with you common interest. When you belong to a community that shares common interest, you get support with ease, sometimes without asking.

Love: This is the most interesting part. You never can under estimate the power of love. You know what length you can go when you actually love something or someone(well not the couple kinda love...lol). Only been part of a community can offer such love. Interacting with people makes them get to know you better. Knowing someone generates some likeness that would make you go a long way to support them. Seeing them succeed becomes part of your goal. That is the power of love working and that can be gotten from being part of community.

A community also promotes unity, shapes ego, and corrects attitudes.
