story of a forensic dom
"I love my job. My job is the reason you future doctors get to learn so many stuffs. I am satisfied with my life."
My ancestors are from Patna in Bihar state of India. My great-grandfather was a British commander. Owing to a conflict with the British, he fled to Bangladesh. He took up the job of a dome in Mitford, to make ends meet. This was a school back then. After my grandfather's death, my father too, came to this profession. He couldn't afford to send all of his children to school. I managed to study upto class 8 only. After my father's death, I joined the forensic medicine department in Mitford as a dome.
At that time, people had negative views regarding this profession. But, to battle poverty, this was the only option I had. Some never acknowledged that we too were flesh and blood human beings. They treated us as outcasts, and didn't want to socialize with us. However this concept has changed in recent years.
I did my very first autopsy on a little child. I still remember my hands were shaking like a leaf. I was struggling with my inner self, and it seemed impossible. Then I started to realise that, this was my profession, the only means by which I could make a living, and raise my kids. After a lot of inner conflict, I finally made the first incision. I cried a lot after that, and even couldn't sleep for 10-15 days, and was haunted by nightmares.
It's been 27 long years I've been working in the anatomy department. When new students arrive, it's quite pleasing to see their enthusiasm towards studies. But there's a huge difference between the current system and the previous one. Nowadays teachers are more dedicated. When students do not appear in class, they inquire about their problems. They put in their best effort, so that no student performs badly in any exam.
I enjoy my work. A couple from Italy once came to visit me. A man also came from America to make a documentary.
When a student passes from here, and again joins as a teacher, it makes me feel successful. I am happy in my life. ![image](https://img.esteem.ws/57sn2iwaa1.jpg)
