If you are new to working out, it can be overwhelming going to a gym. ===================================================================== **How many people have signed up for the gym and walked around not knowing which machines to use or what weights to lift?** https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/08/14/mrpotatoheadworkout1a129.gif [Source](https://67.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mcm8rfkrR91rgj0efo1_500.gif) If you don’t have anyone to help you it could be difficult to do things correctly. I had this problem. I would go to the gym, use a couple of the machines and run on the treadmill. Then I found that niche exercise classes which seems to be great for beginners. Most of the classes tend to work out multiple muscles simultaneously this enables you to maximize your workout in a short amount of time. https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/08/14/thesimsponsworkout4bcbb.gif [Source](https://media4.giphy.com/media/oShObTfbg3S5G/200_s.gif) The first exercise class I went to was called ’Soul Cycle’. =========================================================== Soul Cycle is a cycling class that has created their own brand and have several locations. Basically, you wear special sneakers and clip your feet into a stationary bicycle. You have an instructor who teaches you how to use the bike then coaches you through a series of up hill, down hill, and dumbbell incorporated rides. The atmosphere almost feels like a club. They have very loud dance music playing to pump you up while the instructor, wearing a microphone, encourages you as you ride to the beat of the music. It is pretty fun and an amazing work out. Each class runs about 45 minutes and it is going to feel like an eternity. https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/08/14/soulcycle6ca35.jpg [Source](https://www.flickr.com/photos/thenickster/18522055489) I switched to boxing classes ============================ The boxer’s workout is great. You’ll build muscle and tone up without using machinery at all. Most of the workout has to do with using your own body weight. This means lots of push ups, pull ups, sit ups, squats, jump rope, and, well, punching of course. Boxing is a great way to learn how to defend yourself, as well as, losing some pounds, coordination and rhythm. This class runs for about an hour. It starts off with about 10 minutes of jump rope. Next you’ll do some solo punching or shadow boxing in a mirror to learn form. Randomly, the instructor will have you stop, fall to the ground and start doing push ups or burpees. Eventually you’ll partner up with someone else in class and practice sparing with them. You’ll learn how to punch, block, and dodge. It does take some time getting used to the rhythm of the punching. Once you get the hang of it it can be a lot of fun. I find myself getting quick and more alert with each class I go to. By the end of the hour you’re going to be exhausting and need lots of water. Some hardcore students can manage to go to two classes in a row. https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/08/14/rockyboxinggifa5d13.gif [Source](http://giphy.com/search/rocky) Why go to classes? ================== ### I had an instructor. When I went to the normal gym this would be an extra cost. Now, I get an instructor included whenever I go to a class. It is an extra person to teach me the correct form and most efficient techniques. Remember, instructors are trained professionals in their field. This is a huge advantage and you'll be surprised of how helpful an instructor can be. ### Classmates to push me harder. You are motivated by the other people around you. When everyone else is pushing themselves, you want to push yourself. When you are alone it is easier to give up. I know from going to the gym by myself I would not push myself, you also lie to yourself. When you have a partner watching over you it isn't as easy. After partnering with people in boxing, you don't want to let them down. By not giving 110%, you can ruin your partners workout. Your partner depends on you to maximize their workout. It is very important to be on top of your game. This will make you workout to your full potential. ### It is extremely exhilarating and fun. Going to the gym used to feel like a chore. I would hate when the machines were taken up and I had to wait for people to finish. Now in the classes I don’t need to wait at all. Most of the time I’m using my own body weight to work out and I don’t need a machine. You meet amazing people who want to get into better shape. You will feel better by exercising and be a happier person. It's really exciting for me to go to my classes where I learn new techniques I didn’t know before. https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/08/14/stormtrooperworkouteac0f.gif [Source](https://media.giphy.com/media/GP4JKp4ZS89AA/giphy.gif) ## I recommend going to class based workouts If you go to the gym and know what you are doing, then don’t stop. Just keep in mind class based workouts can be something new you can experience. You may learn something you didn’t know or meet someone you never knew. It allows you to step outside the box. Most gyms offer classes included in their membership. If that is the case, it may not hurt to check one out. Personally, I have a membership directly with the boxing gym and have completely moved away from a regular gym. It feels like a small community and a lot friendlier. Everyone knows each other and helps one another out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd7rWXksvlA [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd7rWXksvlA) ## There are some Apps which allows you to rotate different fitness classes Class Pass is a subscription based app that allows you try many different fitness classes. Instead of signing up for one specific fitness gym you can try multiple. You are allowed to go to the same place three times a month. When I was looking at the San Francisco map it had hundreds of different places to choose from. Check it out here. ## [Class Pass Website](https://classpass.com) **Don't forget to follow @johnnyyash!!** --------------------------------------- ** **@crazymymzysa features authors to promote new authors and a diversity of content.
