What is death?
***I'm currently reading a book about death. I received the suggestion from a friend and I wanted to keep an open mind. So I dived right into it. Sadghuru's book about death made me wonder. I had various moments in my life when I questioned it all and I agree with him on this matter: our society is afraid of dying. The minute you speak the word there is a gloomy vibe associated with it. Why?***

***In our day to day life we rarely think about death. It's so easy to be busy with being busy that you no longer pay attention to what your life has become. Only when somebody tragically dies or decides to end up their life you start to realize that you are here with a temporary permit. I think that we need to keep death as a concept quite close to us. When we become aware of our own mortality we suddenly want to live. To the fullest. Has it happened to you to break a leg, fall, accidentaly almost dying? Have you noticed the powerful grip to life afterwards? How about the people who find out they have terminal diseases? Have you noticed how eager they are to live?***

***What is life? We think that life is about growing up, working, getting to retirement and functioning like everybody else. But that's boring. That's like living like a dead while still breathing. I don't think that you need to be dead to not experience life. You can sleepwalk through life, doing what you don't want to do. That's like being lifeless. Your body is alive but your spirit is dying. The people who do a job they don't like are dying. The people who stay in miserable marriages and relationships are dying. The people who don't follow their dreams and live in fear are dying. The minute you're not being true to yourself you're dying... We are surrounded by more dead people alive than by those who are already buried.***

***The body is just flesh and bones. Focusing on just looking pretty won't get you far in life. I think that more people would be happier if they would choose to invest in their spiritual evolution. To buy a book, to have a meaningful conversation, to enroll in a course, to follow a dream instead of decorating a body with a sad spirit inside. We pay for bricks, walls, furniture, cars and haircuts and we forget to live. We pay for stuff when we lack experiences. On their death bed a person will regret not taking a chance, not trying, not hoping, not doing. I doubt that a person close to dying would wish to have had more clothes, more hours at the office, more time spent on the phone, more houses. When we are close to a near death experience we want to had felt love, caring, appreciation. We want all of the spiritual things we don't care about while being busy to be "alive".***

***We will die one day. I will die. You will die. Our body will be gone. Our spirit is eternal. We can always choose to change the way we live. It takes awareness and a moment of awakening. A moment of asking yourself: what am I doing with my life? You will panic. The moment you will stop from your normal robotic routine and really pause and take a look at your life.... You will panic. Because you will realize that you haven't been living at all. But let there be no worries because the panic will fuel a new desire for change.***

***We will get this moment of awakening when we will encounter with the idea of death. Some of us will awake, some will continue a lifeless lifestyle. It wouldn't hurt each person to ask themselves this simple question: if I were to die tomorrow, how would I live my life today? I think we should live our life with this question in mind everyday. But death has become a taboo although the biggest taboo that nobody talks about is what do we do with so many people dead inside who are still living...***
