<H3>Reading those words was my unexpected thrill of the day.</H3>

I've always wanted to fly.

Not being a newshound, I managed to miss the news release from Chinese drone maker Ehang Corp on February 5th that they've begun flying real, live people in their Ehang 184 drone-like air taxi.

<H3>I find this tremendously exciting.</H3>

I've been an avid reader of science fiction since childhood. Pretty much everyone in Robert Heinlein's future history universe gets around in flying cars.

Of course, in TV cartoons, the Jetson's family car flew everywhere. Walt Disney also promoted the concept of flying cars in his [**Tomorrowland at Disneyland**](https://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/may/21/tomorrowland-disney-strange-utopia-shaped-world-tomorrow) and also on his T.V. magazine, [**The Wonderful World of Disney**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_anthology_television_series).

There have been actual flying cars on T.V. and in the real world, ever since actor [**Bob Cummings**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cummings) drove and flew his [**Taylor Aerocar**](http://www.aerocarforsale.com/history.htm) on a [**popular TV series**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Bob_Cummings_Show) in the 1960s.

<H3>But Ehang 184 is the real deal.</H3>

It's the first real, live, "flying taxi" that I may even one day have a chance to take a seat in and fly. I can hardly wait!

I wrote about it after seeing it last year [**at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show**](https://steemit.com/news/@creatr/ces-2017-my-top-pick-for-awesome-the-ehang-184-autonomous-aerial-vehicle) in Las Vegas. I was up close and personal, but sadly could not touch or sit in it. And so I was thrilled today to see that Ehang has actually begun test flights with human passengers.

Ehang founder and CEO, Huazhi Hu, has put his own life on the line and flown in the machine. Apparently, quite a few of his engineers and other company people have also enjoyed rides. I must confess to being a little jealous.

I do applaud Mr. Hu for his enthusiasm. His personal commitment and joy at what he's accomplished is quite evident in the video.
