Hi fellow Steemians!  Uber, the ride sharing platform that we all know and love(?) is "Getting serious about safety" according to their website. They have implemented new safety features, with the important features outlined below. - Safety Centre You will soon have a dedicated place in the app where you can learn about safety information. - Trusted Contacts You will be able to designate up to five people as 'Trusted Contacts' and share your trip details with them so they know you've arrived safely. If you don't want to bother them too much, you can just share evening rides only. - 911 Assistance If you face an emergency situation while riding Uber, you will be able to press a new emergency button that will connect you to the police. This feature will share your real-time location with the authorities. - 911 integration pilot Uber is teaming up with RapidSOS to pilot 911 integration with local emergency authorities. If you use the emergency button, then the location and trip details will be automatically sent to the 911 dispatcher. - Strengthening driver screening Self explanatory, Uber will strengthen its criminal and driving record screenings. ___ It's certainly a welcome sign to see Uber working to ensure its riders are safer. The emergency button was a much needed feature that really should have been implemented years ago. Otherwise, I'm not perfectly sure if it'll actually make the rides safer. On top of these changes, I'd like to have seen Uber make dashcams that shows interior of the car necessary. I think this will do a lot to protect both the riders and drivers.
