There comes a time in life when a person makes their first investment. In this thread we share! Technically my first investment was a small amount of treasury bonds that I received as a gift as an infant, with a 7% annual yield. And college was an investment technically. But today I share my first stock investment. A little background - I was in high school when the iPhone was released. I took a stock market class that was one day a week and we all played with "fake" money. I didn't know much about the stock market but I did know that Apple was a sure winning stock. I begged and begged my parents to buy Apple but they declined. You could say my parents were very risk adverse.

So after graduating college and earning a little investment money of my own, I became aware of Facebook's IPO in 2012. I set up a brokerage account to be able to buy in when shares hit the open market. I bought some shares right when trading started, then watched over the next few days in disappointment as the share price dropped from low 40's into the 30's, where I bought a little more. Within a few months the share price fell into the teens. The biggest issue surrounding Facebook right after the IPO was a very high price to earnings ratio in the 70s, coupled with risk about the transition from desktop to mobile. What did I do? I decided to leave it alone and not sell my holdings at a loss of 50% . I didn't break even for more than a year and it was painful to even look so I tried to just forget about it. Then in late 2013 to my surprise the share price started picking up. The rest is history. The biggest driver of growth has always been execution on mobile and even eventual monetization of Instagram. I would've never imagined that as of today the price of Facebook shares is almost $180, 5 times the amount invested. That's the type of return that makes me come back for more. **What is your first investment?** Please feel free to share your story, if you are still HODLing today and if your investment paid off!
