- How to Trace WiFi Devices in Your Home -
FIND-LF, is a WiFi detection platform that physically locates the devices within reach, and works in a way that does not need to be connected to the network.

In an ideal world, Internet connections should be cheaper, but providers insist on raising prices, leads to more users interested in stealing access, especially at the time to use their mobile devices. With a good password and the best security protocol that the router offers, the vast majority of intruders will be left with the desire, but if the suspicions persist, the list of MAC addresses registered by the router will give us a solid idea. The alternative is a much more elaborate detection.

Zack Scholl build a special network with Raspberry Pi terminals that act as receivers that constantly make "probe requests" to all WiFi devices that are within reach. The packets are sent to a server that processes the "fingerprints" of the devices, and in turn sends them to another server that applies machine learning to calculate its physical location. The most interesting thing is that the devices do not need to be connected to a local wireless network to be detected.

The official link to GitHub has all the relevant details, in addition to the scripts and commands, to make this system work, we must recognize that it is not something simple. First, the effectiveness of the tracing depends on the number of receivers, this means in a normal case 3 or 4 Raspberry Pi , each with its corresponding power source, a WiFi module configured for monitor mode, and Internet access. And then, the initialization of the Pi, which can be simplified with the help of PiBakery. In other words, the tracking of WiFi devices with FIND-LF is undoubtedly an advanced project, but not less interesting.
