I'm sure many were excited to see the price of our native Hive token shoot up, yesterday! Having bumbled along the bottom for what seems like a *very* long time, a bit of positive news is always welcome. However, I've been part of this gig for long enough to not put much stock in such a sudden rise... seems like we *almost inevitably* end up giving it all back, within 72 hours or a week. Observations tells me that slow *(almost "sneaky")* growth has much more staying power, in the long run. Still, we can but hope that we at least get to keep *some* of the current gains! As the price of Hive rises — be that *now,* or down the road a ways — it inevitably seems like the *activity level* and *engagement* in our community also rises. Maybe I'm being too cynical here, but that suggests people are actually more loyal to *their own financial gains* than to the actual *community.* Personally, I'm loyal to *both,* but moreso the community. ## *Fairweather Friends?* As someone who's here checking out things virtually every day — come rain or shine — it's interesting to see just how many people in the world are little more than what one might describe as *"fairweather friends."* They are *"onboard"* with something when things are good, and *leave* as soon as things are *not* so good. The irony in that is that even some of those who claim to be *"in it for the long haul"* tend to be among the crowd that vanishes into thin air. That said, I didn't actually set out to write a *"post of complaint,"* but rather to express a certain amount of *hopefulness* that perhaps we'll get so see some of our *"old favorites"* come back to the fold... even if just for a short while! It also makes me pause and ponder the question *"at what POINT do people consider Hive to be a 'worthwhile' endeavor?"* I can't answer that question, as someone who feels it's *"worthwhile"* all the time. For someone else, however, is there an actual *point* at which someone makes a conscious decision to return to Hive? And how many people would suddenly become active again if Hive were to go to $2.00 and seem to *stay* there, for a while? Would we suddenly end up with *twice* or *three times* the number of active users we've been having, in recent months? As a bit of a student of human nature and trends, what makes this all *particularly* interesting to watch is that other social media sites — regardless of format — don't have a *"price factor"* as a predictor of their activity level. People don't suddenly stop using twitter or Facebook because the stock price goes down. Well, it's all rather interesting to *think* about, but I'm not prepared to lose sleep over overanalyzing it all! But still, I *do* hope the current uptick doesn't fizzle us right back to 40 cents, or so! I like seeing *progress,* and I alse really liked seeing how the effect of Hive's price *"feeds through"* to the Hive-Engine tokens! Long may it last! I appreciate you visiting my little blog; do leave me a comment, if you feel so inclined! # =^..^= Posted using [Proof of Brain](https://www.proofofbrain.io/@curatorcat.pal/the-price-of-hive-and-the-level-of-community-activity-and-engagement)
