"Let us see.." intoned the man half in shadows. With the nobility of an icicle he surveyed the vista that was laid out before him like a crinkled atlas. Eyes of steel and blue fire shone like medieval torches into the outlines of the landscape. A lone elk traipsed across the tundra in stolid hoof-fall. His eye-scopes extended and revolved protruding from armored sockets, whirring millions of calculations per second. An inner claxon bloomed. "That elk is not human..." declared the man absurdly.

Leaping from the summit, gleaming wings extended from his shoulder blades, and he smoothly coasted into the valley on an interception course with the cervine rarity. An extremely quiet hum attested to his relative invisibility due to the activation of camouflage circuits. Nano-arachnids entwined a silken merkabah around him to cancel all evidence of his presence, including the slight hum. The elk paced obliviously on, trudging across the desolate snow plain.

With all the grace of a featherweight hummingbird he alighted upon the tip of a nearby evergreen tree. From the middle of his spine a strange appendage arose through the skin and curved up and around like a scorpion stinger. From this tip launched a microscopic dart. As the dart rapidly neared the elk, it decelerated and suddenly shrapnelled. One sensor implanted into the elk's third eye region. Another rode upon its back like a tiny saddle. A third found its way to the elk's underbelly, and a fourth to the region of it's root. The fifth fragment began orbiting in complex geometries the entitreity of the elk's body.

Billions of data points unclasped into the man's consciousness and he nearly staggered and fell off the treetop in amazement. "This cannot be..." he breathed.

*This is one of my first attempts at writing fiction. I titled it Chapter Zero because it is like the brainstorm for a potential story. Please give me some feedback on it! I had a lot of fun writing this and have tons of ideas for this world/universe. It will make more sense as we go to further chapters :)*
