You lose all of your weapons and various other pick-ups and start fresh. There are some suit upgrades that are permanent, but they are not something you will encounter frequently. When you wake back up at Helios following a death, you start at the same door. When you open the door, things will be slightly different each time. The game world is procedurally generated which means that no cycle will be the exact same ever. This keeps things fresh constantly and you will always be wondering if the next door will be filled with useful loot or enemies that you can barely handle. This game is very challenging and can really feel like torture if you are expecting it to be like a normal adventure game. I am finding the difficulty to be painful and a total joy at the same time.
