# Damour's weekly breakdown of the Battle mage secrets

CHALLENGE RULES
RULESET: Back to Basics
Description: Monsters lose all abilities.

Tip: Back row monsters are safe from enemy's Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks. The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks as melee attacks loose their ability to hit outside of the first position. Select monsters with high speed and choose a summoner that increases damage or defense against Magic or Ranged attacks. Lining up monsters in ascending order of their health is the way to go.

This weeks battle mage secrets are one of my most hated rule sets removing abilities from whichever monster line up you bring can be frustrating. Back row monsters are safe from enemy's Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks. The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks as melee attacks loose their ability to hit outside of the first position. |Rulesets that don't support |Reasons |
|---|---|
|Silenced Summoners|Probably the worst combo you could get as the buffs you receive from your summoners are now also gone.|
|Weak Magic|This can be punishing as you will most likely want to include some magic monsters.|

Monsters breakdown

Buffs
Selecting monsters with high speed and line up monsters from highest health to lowest health in order to allow you back line to continue doing damage for as long as possible.

Nurfs

Stay away from monsters with low health as well as slower speed and last but not least melee monsters.

Summoners breakdown

Buffs
"Anti-Magic" Summoners that give the Void and the Void-Armor abilities and overpowered Summoners like Yodin Zaku 
You could also consider summoners with damage modifiers like 
Obsidian or Thaddius Brood or Tarsa if you have the Melee Mayham ruleset. Another possibility is using speed in Summoners like Kelya or Jacek or Ilthain or of course the infamous Kitty.

Nurfs

Summoners like Lily Shieldpaw lose their value as your opponent is going to be targeting the monster in the first position.

Without further delay lets dig into a battle to see some of our recommendations in action.

Our opponent has also gone with a Obsidian Summoner.
So as you can see our placement is a tank card upfront our only melee card in the battle. Our back line is made up of magic only taking advantage of the magic modifier from our summoner and the health goes from higher to lower. Small exception being our last two cards I kept the Regal Peryton as the last placed card giving our fastest card more time to do as much damage as possible.
