Welcome to Part 2 of my @slothicorn introduction - The Corn part. Friday will be Part 3 - The piece that binds the Sloth to the Corn. Those of you who missed Part 1: Here’s an Easy Click to get caught up. This is the link I attached to Part 1 that explains what #slothicorn is all about.

Drawing this ear of corn was surprisingly difficult. I didn’t expect that. This one challenged me more than any of my previous drawings. Truth be told, I considered scratching the ear of corn and going with a tricked out drawing of the word: Korn - The band everyone is familiar with. I tipped the sissy scale on that one! The more I studied an ear of corn, the more I realized there’s only one way to draw this thing: One kernel at a time.

For this one I used - 3 mechanical pencils (lead, yellow, orange) - Red Ball Point Pen - 2 Crayolas (tan, mustard):

*Before*

Music. My phone’s shuffling something from the 50’s when I draw. Prince has always been my favorite artist but I’d rather hear Etta James sing **Purple Rain** when I have a neglected canvas in front of me. And when a song like **Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky (From Now On)** by Lee Dorsey comes on, it’s break time! I just set the pencil down at that point, lean back in my chair, snap my fingers and occasionally I’ll even play some drums against my thighs:

*One at a time*

Music / Food. I have to remember to eat before I get started on a drawing. If not, I’ll have to stop in the middle of what I’m doing when my hand starts twitching. That’s about the time I throw together a PB&J, wash it down with some mio water and try to remember what I was doing when I stopped. I like grape jelly but an occasional apricot jam won’t hurt my feelings. No peanuts in my peanut butter, please, there’s peanuts for that:

Music / Food / Trees. Aromatic trees.

Music / Food / Trees / Daylight. Those are the elements, in no particular order, I like to keep consistent when I’m drawing. I always get to a good stopping point when it’s time to catch the sunset. We’re pretty punctual about having ourselves somewhere on the boardwalk for that. By the time we get home it’s dark outside so I pack up the pencils for the day, tidy up the TV tray I’ve been using as a desk and sweep up the eraser shavings. *lots of erasing* Either everything I draw looks different when it’s dark outside or we need a new light:

*Finished*

This is when I removed the page from the sketchbook and cut the ear of corn away from the page. I cut about half of the paper away from Part 1 and replaced it with this corn. This is what I envisioned a Sloth and an ear of Corn to look like before they get the stamp that holds them together:
