Take a look at this whiteboard 📸👇. This is the result of one week of intense study where we dedicated approximately two hours every day (broken down into 15-minute blocks) to studying English, getting her ready for yesterday's exam 🇬🇧📚. If there is one thing I’ve learned over these years with my daughter, it is that with autism, learning isn't a straight, upward line 📏; it’s more like a roller coaster 🎢 that sometimes leads to emotional meltdowns or sensory overload.

>Miren esta pizarra 📸👇 este es el resultado de 1 semana de estudio intenso don cada día dedicamos aproximadamente 2 horas (divididas en bloques de 15 minutos) a estudiar inglés para prepararla para el examen de ayer 🇬🇧📚. Si algo he aprendido estos años con mi hija, es que en el autismo el aprendizaje no es una línea recta ascendente 📏, más bien es una montaña rusa 🎢 que a veces deriva en descargas de emociones o sobrecarga sensorial.

On the very day of the exam, however, her anxiety won the battle 😔. Her mind went completely blank, and she cried out of frustration, unable to write a single word. Looking at it from the outside, someone might think the information was simply erased from her memory, but this isn't the first time this has happened to us. I have learned that, with autism, an invisible wall 🧱 sometimes arises between what they know and what they can demonstrate under pressure.
>Precisamente el día del examen, su ansiedad ganó la batalla 😔 su mente se quedó en blanco y lloró de frustración, no fue capaz de escribir una sola palabra. Al verlo desde fuera, alguien podría pensar que se borró de su mente toda la información, pero no es la primera vez que nos pasa. He aprendido que, con el autismo, en ocasiones surge una especie de muro u obstáculo invisible 🧱 entre lo que saben y lo que logran demostrar bajo presión.

The learning journey hasn't been simple. There are moments when her performance fluctuates 📉: one day she remembers everything perfectly, and the next she gets everything wrong, does things out of order, or seems absent. But consistency and patience allow us to help her learn a great deal 📈. As you can see in the photo, after a week of studying, the whiteboard was a safe space for her to show what she knew. However, the blockage happened in front of the sheet of paper, in a classroom filled with noise and pressure, far outside her safe zone at home 💔.
>El proceso de aprendizaje no fue sencillo, hay momentos donde su rendimiento fluctúa 📉, un día recuerda todo perfecto y al otro escribe todo mal, lo hace en desorden o se muestra ausente. Pero la constancia y paciencia permiten que logremos que ella aprenda mucho 📈, así como se ve en la foto, al final de una semana de estudio, la pizarra fue un sitio seguro para ella mostrar lo que sabía, pero surgió el bloqueo frente a la hoja de papel, en un salón de clases con ruido, presión y fuera de su zona segura en casa. 💔

Fortunately, her teacher showed great empathy 🙏. He understood that what happened wasn't due to a lack of studying, but rather an emotional crisis, so he ended up sending the questions home for her to complete 🏡. We will go through the questions in her safe place to see how she does and confirm what we already know: that she knows the material. Regardless, I won’t stop celebrating Isabella’s effort. We know that her unique brain processes things at its own rhythm, so Mom and Dad will always be here to be the scaffolding she needs ❤️🧩.
>Afortunadamente su profesor mostró una gran empatía 🙏, porque entendió que lo ocurrido no era por falta de estudio, sino una crisis emocional, por eso termino mandando las preguntas para hacerlas en casa 🏡. Haremos las preguntas en su lugar seguro y veremos su desempeño y así corroborar lo sabemos que sabe. Igualmente no dejo de celebrar el esfuerzo e intento de Isabella, sabemos que su cerebro único procesa a su propio ritmo, así que mamá y papá estarán aquí siempre para ser su andamio cuando lo necesite ❤️🧩.
