I dug this out of the unpublished section of an old YouTube account.

It was an exercise in the use of still images for documentary storytelling while I was studying documentary film-making at the University of Bedfordshire. The soundtrack is a tune I composed and played on recorder and frame drum, and later distorted in Audacity. I quite like the sound, and sadly can't remember what effects I used to produce it.

It was recorded in the deepest part of Purwell Grove, at the back of Purwell Mill. The deep fuzzy bassy crackle on the distortion is created by the sound of the running water.

My video didn't get very good feedback from the tutor because it just showed the images without using any motion techniques or creative transitions. I was right at the start of the MA program, so a bit of a rookie. I'd never made videos before. Luckily, it was just a classroom exercise and the grade didn't count 😃

It was during the MA that I started writing music -- mostly folky tracks on the recorder, as I hadn't picked up the clarinet yet. I went from that to attending composition courses with composer Andrew Toovey at a local music college, which was a lot of fun and not at all what I expected. Let's just say we weren't encouraged to use the Circle of Fifths!

Fellow Hivers @steevc and @todayslight live a few miles down the same river, and have been spotted sitting beside it or running/walking along it.

I guess you could say @anna-newkey and @purplesinger are even further downstream, as the Purwell runs into the Hiz, which runs into the Ouse.
