@dannewton just finished a 13.3km run, that lasted for 83 minutes. This run helped dannewton burn 1232.0 calories. --- **Description from Strava:** After missing the last week, it was back to parkrun this weekend. It is Easter weekend here in the UK, which means that with bank holiday for Good Friday and again for the Eater Monday, resulting in a 4-day weekend *Whoop whoop!* That means I've got plenty of time to rest, relax, and do all the required chores too. That said, I was a little disorganized this morning. I run down to parkrun each time, and that is about 4km. I usually leave the house at 8:25am, to give me time to get down there without having to rush. However, the time got away from me this morning, and so I hurriedly got all my kit together and left the house Too horridly in fact as 300 meters down the road, i suddenly realized I was missing my parkrun barcode >The barcode is needed to be scanned at the end of the event, so that that my details can be matched to my finish time, and thus added to my list of results. It is an ingenious and low effort/cost way of keeping track of the hundreds of thousands of parkrunners that join in their local events each week The barcode can simple be printed out on to a piece of paper when the participant signs up on the website, and there are apps that can be used to provide the barcode to be scanned. Right at the start I bought myself a wristband, which I like as it doesn't really on a scrap of paper (that could get lost), nor does it rely on having a phone on me. I cursed and swore, and dashed back to the house to grab the parkrun wristband. It was now 8:36, and I was rapidly running out of time to be able to get to the event for 9am. The start is often delayed, but I couldn't rely on that. I realized there was only one thing for it, I would need to try and find a shorter route to make some time up. The route I usually take follows the main road down cross o cliff hill. and then cuts back onto Newark road, I knew there were some smaller paths across some fields... was this going to be quicker? I had to take a chance!! >-----------------------Left image - Shortcut-------------------------------------------------- Right image - Standard route And so I headed cross country... I don't think I've run down here before? Certainly has been ages if I have... was nice to run somewhere different... a bit of 'exploring' if you will :-) After running down the hill, I ran down the side of a field... there was a quick pause to get my bearings, before I found a side street... ...and this in turn took me on to Newark road Checking my watch, it was 8:58, and I arrived just in time to see they were still in the middle of the race briefing... made it! After a couple of minutes, we all moved over to the start line, and the run itself gout under at 9:05 The ran itself was fairly straightforward. I weaved in and out of the crowds (435 runners) and kept it mostly slow and easy for the first 2 laps. I picked it up on the 3rd lap, and tried to finish strongly (highlighted in yellow on the graph below) I finished in 189th place, and after I got both my finish token, and my barcode scanned, I then bumped into a lady I used to work with (moved to a different organization 6 months ago). She is a regular at parkruns, but usually attends the Doddington Hall event. She does visit the Lincoln one occasionally and this was the first time I'd seen her here. It was great to have a catch-up... she also did the Lincoln 10K 2 weeks ago, and I tried to convince her to join me for the 1/2 Marathon in October later this year. >she didn't sound too interested in that lol! Afterwards, it was time to head for home I decided to retrace my route and take the shortcut back home The run in total was 13km, and the standard route was just over 14km, so I now know my shortcut is 500 meters shorter... good to know in case of future delays, although hopefully I will be better organized next weekend! And now its time to crack on with the rest of the long weekend. I'm gonna head out to cut the grass now, and then I'm gonna take it easy for the res of the afternoon. I am thinking of moth trapping, but not sure if I will do this later this evening, or if I will do it tomorrow evening instead. >I hope everyone else enjoys the Easter Holidays (I'm nor particularly religious, but I do appreciate the extra time off from work!) --- If you would like to check out this activity on strava you can see it here: https://www.strava.com/activities/14220271767 **About the Athlete:** *Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)* This is an automated post by @strava2hive and is currently in BETA.
