**Description from Strava:** Well, that run was 'mostly' enjoyable.

I felt fit and comfortable, I wasn't pushing the pace on purpose, and yet Strava tells me I achieved my 2nd fastest 10 mile time during this run. Evidently I was feeling good today.

Except for the 10 mins in the middle where I nearly sprained my ankle twice AND almost threw up.

>lets start at the beginning...

Today was the standard weekend 'long run' and I couldn't make up my mind where to go. I wanted to run somewhere new, and trying to find a route on google maps which was different (but still on main roads as I'm not a fan of crappy little cross country paths) and still close to 15km.

I eventually plumped for a circular route to go along Canwick Road for 11km, and then a loop around the village for 5km to make up the difference. I have never run along Canwick Road, but I know it eventually ends up connecting to the bypass so I knew where I was going.

I began the run as usual by heading out the village and down the hill, and then followed the road round the edge of South Common. I crossed over by the Crematorium, and head done onto Canick. It started nice enough, but the path by the side of the road was getting smaller and smaller. As I passed Lincoln Bowl, the path essentially disappeared. It was still sort of there, but so overgrown that I resorted to running on the grass verge.

The grass was long and the ground uneven, so after literally 4 steps I nearly twisted my ankle. Not a good idea. I had no choice but to run on the road. And as it was a surprisingly busy B-road, that was no fun either. After 300m I was relieved to see the path had reappeared and I could stop dodging traffic and get back onto safer ground.

And then I saw a sign:

>Water Treatment Works

And then the smell hit me

At this point I was breathing in big lungful's of air (you know, due to the strenuous exercise) and I ended up taking big gulps of raw stinking raw sewage, so strong that I could actually taste it. Not pleasant is a severe understatemnt.

And I was so focused on not throwing up, that I didn't see a pothole in front of me, and nearly sprained my ankle a 2nd time.

200m later I finally escaped the foul stench, and joined the bypass. With relief, I was able to enjoy the rest of the run with no more mis-haps

So yeah, it was a good session, and I ran well... but I'm never, ever, EVER running that route again!

**About the Athlete:** *Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)*
