A common complaint we often hear in the #Cryptospace is how much energy is used to mine and maintain crypto and how it is not good for the planet. This is because the computer power it takes to mine for crypto uses lots of electricity, and currently the vast majority of electricity in the world is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal.  

It has been reported that the Bitcoin network alone consumes more energy than entire countries. If crypto-currency mining is going to be a long-term solution, it is paramount that environmentally friendly, sustainable methods, of energy production be developed.  

Enter "The Moonlite Project' which is currently building a mining center in Iceland that will be used for the mining of crypto-currencies on an industrial scale. And while the center will be used to fulfill  Moonlite's desire of becoming one of the largest cryptocurrency-mining organizations in the world, they also plan to do so using low-cost, sustainable and green energy #exclusively.

Construction will begin in April of 2018 and it's scheduled to open around August. The site was planned to take advantage of Iceland’s naturally cool climate, which will help eliminate the need for extensive cooling infrastructure.

“Our data center, and future data centers, will always make use of 100 percent clean and renewable energy sources, such as energy being generated from hydro, wind, and geothermal sources,” Eric Krige, Moonlite Project’s founder and CEO, told Digital Trends.

According to Krige the data center will employ some smart tech beyond its use of environmentally friendly means of cooling and generating power. **_“We will be deploying custom mining software and additional software that is already on the market, our teams will be implementing some smart mining tech as well, including A.I. and custom algorithms to assist in miner management, and to ensure that we are focusing on what is profitable at all times.”_** Krige said in his most recent interview.

The center will start with a capacity of just 15 megawatts, with plans to expand the future. It aims to produce roughly $8 million per month in newly mined currency. 

This center is the first of it's kind and an interesting project to follow. If Moonlite is successful they will prove that sustainable energy and Crypto-currencies together can completely revolutionize the world, and take power back from the Rockerfeller oil oligarchs who have controlled the worlds wealth for the last century.
