Query: Healthcare stakeholders recently testified before the US House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee that the "lack of electronic health record interoperability and sharing of patient data continue to be major barriers to value-based care in Medicare."

Some key points raised include:

- One of the biggest challenges to achieving interoperability is the lack of a national patient identifier.

- EHR systems are expensive and there is a lack of competition with, what are essentially, monolithic EHR systems.
