Cooking with THC Part II

My first attempt after making the butter was a delicious batch of easy-to-make caramels, shown here with the recipe from the MagicButter.com recipies.

In Part I I explained how I started using marijuana to help alleviate low back pain and the constant loud ringing in ears from Tinnitus. I needed a way to use the CBD and THC in the winter, so edibles would be the solution, and the MagicButter machine was the perfect way to get started. I showed how to prepare the weed for cooking after decarboxylation in Part I, so this entry will show how I made my first batch of edibles.

The Magical Butter machine working its magic

Once I had the two cups of clarified butter and the decarboxylated weed, everything went into to pot at 160 F for two hours just as directed on the Magical Butter website. The machine seems to randomly spin the chopping blades while heating the liquid through the process.

The silicone glove and strainer that came with the kit for handling and extracting from the hot solution

I took these pictures months before writing this process down, so I can see from this one that I did not start off with caramels, but throwback to the 70s—brownies.

The glove protects from the heat and has grips so that I was able to put a lot of twists into the bag to squeeze the remaining vegetation until it was quite dry.

This is the full batch ready for the fridge for a few hours before using it for baking. I used the first batch within a few weeks baking, but the second batch, I wrapped the remaining blocks and put them in the freezer.

The first batch that I had put through just one strainer.

A noticeable colour difference in my second batch that I poured through both strainers.

Then it was a simple step of following the directions on a brownie mix box. All who tried them found them delicious, but all had various results ranging from mildly mellowing, to couch-lock.

Then it was on to equally delicious caramels.
![5701C3C3-664C-42A4-AB1F-45CD5D104ED4.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVYnVFPHGfJ9FUodWPf1F3DKQwwMUNRbcNJi8w4kMzeVZ/5701C3C3-664C-42A4-AB1F-45CD5D104ED4.jpeg)

After the prototypes, it was on to bigger caramels.

Once I had caramels down, it was on to making an elixir for gummies and hard candy
![527F600A-A279-43F8-A577-8D9B1A4E55C2.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVMwN6jKw1YJPYWk8fp7LYDMiDC1aAdcnhKLSDix81hSh/527F600A-A279-43F8-A577-8D9B1A4E55C2.jpeg)

Just a little messier than the caramels. . .
![4E262F7F-4A16-4CFC-803A-FE745538CCB0.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmV1TfyRdpiqXSSKphYkbLbh7omjrwyv1hYfgjCMP3Vsqi/4E262F7F-4A16-4CFC-803A-FE745538CCB0.jpeg)

. . .but oh so worth it!
![91EE5842-1E19-4430-8844-73F088870234.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZeSWX58cGhej3Dp9DP2G7diBVsMC41Cr12gx3zfEWa79/91EE5842-1E19-4430-8844-73F088870234.jpeg)

And what is better than a gummie, but a still bigger gummie.
![C6F10B72-09CC-4388-A35E-F93309D7D643.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmPnMS3ptaq4yM7atz2sgfxuDyPbXHm37zUUUtSsw81SrG/C6F10B72-09CC-4388-A35E-F93309D7D643.jpeg)

By using 151 over proof run, the resulting elixir can be used to make hard candies like these.
![6E5126FA-6E82-49F4-A849-CAAE8899B706.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUVS8Q96k2sHeApzxZz35T729172FyYNvLmfuW82THcM7/6E5126FA-6E82-49F4-A849-CAAE8899B706.jpeg)

So all-in-all it’s shaping up to be a rewarding hobby that is made all the easier with the right equipment and moulds. The next step will be chocolate bars, and I’ll likely get an analyzer so that I will know exactly how much goodness I have in each treat, otherwise, I’ll resort to getting feedback from willing test subjects. ![1451C198-AAB0-4B31-A8A6-0A370444E8E3.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSBWg7ENHgGNihquKGaqhd4uWRQ5EnrRCq5UHd8NCJCJh/1451C198-AAB0-4B31-A8A6-0A370444E8E3.jpeg)
