Hundreds of times I have ridden in different types of vehicles over the Almendras river bridge in the province of Havana, Cuba.
The Almendares River, which runs from west to northwest, is the most renowned river in Havana and divides in its final stretch the Plaza de la Revolucion municipality from Playa municipality, it is very important for Havana residents for its fresh water supply and several other reasons.
Always dominated by speed, I was always impressed by the view of the vegetation reflected in the calm waters. But the best known and most renowned stretch of the Almendares River is precisely the one that passes underneath, and on both sides of the bridge, because there is the so-called "Metropolitan Park of Havana", also known as "Havana Forest" or simply "Almendares Park. Although in reality the park is inside the forest, which has more geographical amplitude.
But this time I had the pleasure of walking across the elevated masonry bridge and observe the banks, the foliage, and the calm waters of the legendary river.
I decided in the company of a travel companion to descend by a side road and I was immediately invaded by a pleasant romantic spirit that we shared while observing so much natural beauty and the one created by man for the better enjoyment of nature.
Now my point of view changed and I was able to observe from below the bridge with its immense semicircular arch reflected on the gentle water, like a painting of "Canaletto" inspired by the wonderful city of Venice.
It is said that in the aboriginal language Almendares means "the flowing waters" or something similar.
From a small masonry pier that permanently overlooks the calm waters that flow unhurriedly towards the mouth in the northwest of Havana, I had the opportunity to enjoy the pictorial atmosphere of the aquatic landscape that appeared splendidly before me, bathed by a strident tropical light that the sun gave us from above, almost at the zenith of its trajectory.
In the piece of riverbank east of the Almendares there is a whole complex of restaurants, playgrounds and cafes that together with an exquisite and shady exotic atmosphere encourage you to stay still in the place, contemplating the beautiful mirror of water that paints with green tints the image of the opposite bank.
The Almendares River is about forty-five kilometers long from its source in the hills to its sweet arrival to the salty waters of the sea, but these views are the most visited and remembered of its entire length.

> Dominado siempre por la velocidad siempre me impresionó la vista de la vegetación reflejada en las tranquilas aguas. Pero el tramo mas conocido y renombrado del Rio Almendares es precisamente ese que pasa por debajo, y a ambos lados del puente, pues allí se encuentra el llamado "Parque Metropolitano de la Habana", tambien conocido como "Bosque de la Habana" o simplemente "Parque Almendares. Aunque en realidad el parque esta dentro del bosque, que tiene mas amplitud geográfica .
>Pero esta vez tuve el placer de transitar a pie por el elevado puente de mampostería y observar ya sin velocidades y sin apuros las riveras, el follaje, y las tranquilas aguas del legendario rio.
>Decidí en compañía de una compañera de viaje descender por una vía lateral y de verdad que enseguida me invadió un agradable espíritu romántico que compartimos_ al observar tanta belleza natural y la creada por el hombre para mejor disfrute de la naturaleza.
>Ahora mi punto vista cambió y pude desde abajo observar el puente con su inmenso arco de medio punto reflejado sobre el agua mansa, a la manera de un cuadro del "Canaletto" inspirado en la maravillosa ciudad de Venecia.
>Dice la oralidad, que en lengua aborigen Almendares quiere decir " las aguas que fluyen " o algo parecido.
>Desde un pequeño embarcadero de mampostería que se adelanta permanentemente sobre las aguas tranquilas que van sin apuros hacia la desembocadura en el noroeste habanero,tuve la oportunidad de disfrutar la atmósfera pictorica del paisaje acuático que se mostraba espléndido ante mi, bañado por una estridente luz tropical que nos regalaba el sol allá desde arriba, casi en el cenit de su trayectoria.
>En el pedazo de rivera al Este del Almendares hay todo un complejo de restaurantes, parques de diversión infantil y cafeterias que unidos a un exquisito y sombreado ambiente exótico incitan a quedarse quieto en el lugar, contemplando el hermoso espejo de agua que pinta con tintes verdes la imagen de la rivera opuesta.
>El rio Almendares tiene cerca de cuarenta y cinco km de largo desde su nacimiento en las lomas, hasta su llegada dulce a las aguas saladas del mar,pero estás vistas son las mas visitadas y recordadas de toda su longitud.
