Dear Actifitters, a splendid sun welcomed the town as the local citizens woke up on Sunday.

What better day to go and visit the Sacro Monte of the Santuario di Sant'Anna di Montrigone. A small and wonderful church authentically set on top of a hill in the city of Borgosesia in the charming Valsesia.

At the entrance to the mountain the climb is really hard and, despite a comfortable staircase, the slope is really hard to deal with.

Scattered around the hill are the 14 stations that represent the stages of Christ's Via Crucis that have been frescoed and are awaiting a decisive restoration.

The various climbs that must be faced are on a dirt and stone road and from there you can admire a breathtaking view of the picturesque skyline of Borgosesia.

Note the installations of numerous photovoltaic systems on the roofs of buildings with sloping roofs. Roofs necessary in this area dominated by the Alpine mountains even if real snowfalls become increasingly rare with the passing of the years.

The lack of rains and snowfalls are causing an increasingly devastating and worrying dryness of the Sesia river, causing innumerable difficulties for the local flora and fauna and the death of fish now reduced to a flicker.

From the testimonies of the older population there has never been such a situation for at least seventy years.

When I reached the top of the hill I found the Sanctuary closed. The circumstance saddened me because I wanted to bring a prayer to those who in the darkest years had stopped the terrible medieval plague that has mowed down a very high percentage of the local population, decimating the population.
