A reflection on my garden and life
# Big Plans, Big Failures

As it has been for the past two seasons, I have had big plans for my gardens. Last year I planted a lot of stuff, just to see what would grow. I had some success and some failures.

As last fall turned into winter, I began making plans for this seasons gardens. I knew things would be scaled back, because the back **Flower Garden** turned into nothing but weeds. I also knew I would have to do something else for the bag garden on the **Grillin' Deck** and ended up buying a [Garden Tower](https://gardentowerproject.com). **The Side Micro Garden** would not be as filled as last year and it started green way before the season normally started.

### So, what happened this season?

I managed to get a few handfuls of raspberries before they stopped producing. This was a big disappointment, because it looked like they might produce a lot more.

The Garden Tower was never setup, which is the fate of my wall garden that I planned last season. While the Garden Tower sits in its box in my utility room, the pieces to the vertical wall garden are scattered on the floor of my shed. My shed is a mess, another victim of my neglect.

In my shed sits a box with a [Mister Landscaper](https://misterlandscaper.com/premium-all-in-one-micro-sprinkler-kit) drip irrigation system that I won mid-season last year. It was supposed to water the **Front Micro Garden**, which desperately needed it his season.

I bought some heirloom seeds this year and started them in my seed tray, which was a success. My plans for the **Front Micro Garden** started out on course. I had my parents bring down some more [Eco Disk](https://www.ecodisks.com) and I put everything out.

The blueberry cherry tomatoes produce first and if I had setup the drip system, they would probably produce more. The other tomatoes are barely putting anything out.

And based on the cracks, they are lucky to be producing fruit at all. Obvious sign of a neglected garden.

There were some unexpected wins in the garden. I bought two concord grape vines from the Home Despot and planted them a bit early. I also was given three unknown grape variety from my parents.

The store bought ones are doing well and at least one of the family transplanted ones had new leaf growth a few weeks after I planted it.

The grape vine I planted in the **Side Micro Garden** is also thriving, even though I left it for dead. It has to fight with the raspberry bushes for space and I am not sure who is winning.

As I look at my garden to see what is working and what never got done, I feel as if it is a reflection of my life. Too many hobbies or interests have caused for more neglect than produce harvested. Just as I know what to do to fix my gardens, I know what to do for other things in my life. But, whether it is due to true lack of time or not, I know it has to be more about motivation and momentum. When you load yourself down with a lot of small items, you end up making a heavy enough load to stop progress.

I need to step back and decide what are the things that I should continue to truck and what things should be discarded in order for me to continue down life's highway with ease.
