Life might be good ***now***. 

You might have your **dream career**.

***But what will happen to you if you lose it all?***

There is one sure fire danger when it comes to losing everything: ***getting old!***

We all age and some people live on their memories for the rest of their lives. Lucky them!

BUT if you want to avoid only living in the past why not practice lifelong learning?

I've posted about this before as it is a passion of mine.

Taking the examples above:

#### Dream Career :

So you are a banker, a teacher, a doctor, a relief worker NOW, (the list goes on and on). Try to timetable your day so you have time to develop other useful skills in case you lose your job.
Some examples of skill development are:

##### Your IT Skills
Making sure your IT skills are up to date and you understand how to get the most out of them means you could teach other people if you had to change career path. Enroll for classes on IT skills and polish yours up!

##### Your Artistic, DIY,  Woodworking skills
All these can lead to an alternative career if you make sure your skills are first rate. Also they are of immense use to you in life, saving you money and offering you relaxation. There are classes for this kind of subject too but often an older friend will be happy to share these skills with you.

##### Your Social Skills
It's sometimes forgotten by people in their dream career that social skills are so very important if the unthinkable happens and you lose your job. It will be much easier to get started on another career path if you have a network of friends and contacts who will recommend you as skillful, caring and hardworking. Make sure you keep in touch with people!

#### Winning All the Races

NOW you find it easy to be first at most things you do. You are first to be given a salary increase, first to be promoted, first to win a medal in life's races. Suddenly it all stops! Maybe you experience a health problem or some kind of crash leaves you bankrupt. You will need those extra skills mentioned above to get back on your feet.

#### Young People

One of the best things parents can do for young people is to introduce them to clubs that teach skills. This can sometimes lead to a career or job in the future. 
The child who attends swimming lessons can go on to learn life guarding skills, leading to the qualification and employment later on.
The child who attends dancing lessons can go on to open their own dancing school, entering shows and teaching other people's children.

I've seen both these examples save the day for friends of mine.
