0.000 HBDSublime Sunday At The Marshy Point Nature Center
For #sublimesunday I thought I would share some photos from my visit to the Marshy Point Nature Center which is located at 7130 Marshy Point Road in Baltimore County, Maryland. [//]:# (!steemitworldmap 39.348549 lat -76.370537 long Marshy Point Nature Center d3scr) The Marshy Point Nature Center opened in 2000. In addition to the nature center, they have a park with over eight miles of beautiful trails. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and the nature center is open from 9 am to 5 pm (except holidays). Inside the center they have at least two classrooms full of exhibits but many other areas with displays as well. They have many displays of different critters and fowl indigenous to the area. Most of the living creatures there have been donated or are in captivity because they would not survive in the wild. They used to have a starling that they raised from a baby because it had been abandoned by its mother. The starling could talk and would say "tweet tweet". Unfortunately, the starling passed away not too long ago but they did have a mallard duck that roams around freely. They asked that you not try to pet the duck and be careful when opening the doors. The duck seemed perfectly happy to stay inside and it had a sweet set up right in the lobby. On this day, I was with my husband and my two youngest sisters that are twins. One of the things we really enjoyed seeing was the large tank with an American eel named Unagi and some fairly large fish. There were other living creatures also including turtles, snakes and frogs. The bug area was interesting and, luckily, there were no bees in the beehive box or wasp nest. ๐ Lots of different skeleton exhibits and turtle shell exhibits. The staff there were very nice and ready to answer any questions but we knew they were expecting a school bus (or two) full of kids on a class trip so we did not keep them from getting a classroom ready for their arrival. We hurried through that classroom but did manage to get a few photos of some exhibits inside. Another one of my favorite things that I saw there were the taxidermied squirrels. Many of these items were donated throughout the years. Outside, they had some live birds including turkeys, chickens and owls. I couldn't get photos of all of them as some were way up high in nests and out of angle for pictures. So, here are some turkey photos..lol! The only owl photos I was able to get were of the displays on the inside of the center. Once the school busses showed up, we decided to go outside and walk some of the trails. I'll be showing some photos from my walk on the trails in the coming weeks. Hope you enjoyed this "little" peek inside of the Marshy Point Nature Center. ๐ Thank you @c0ff33a for #sublimesunday!!
