Barrage Vauban is a Historical Monument of France.

As we walked around the barrage, we realized that it has 13 arches where 3 arches are bigger than the rest. Under each of them, mobile iron panels allow to control the flooding of the southern front of the city and, where appropriate, make it impractical to the attackers.

Admission to Barrage Vauban is free. Within the structure is an enclosed corridor with a lapidarium on either side showcasing ancient plaster casts and copies of statues and gargoyles from Strasbourg Cathedral and Palais Rohan.

The roof above is the observation terrace as well as a pedestrian regular bridge. It is accessible by flight of stairs or by lift designed for disable visitors. It was worth the walk up to the observation terrace, we were amazed by the panoramic views over the nearby Petite France, the Ponts Couverts, and the Cathedral.

A great location to capture some best views of Strasbourg.
