If you're not familiar with Orinoco, it's an OTC crypto exchange based in Venezuela and it's the most popular OTC exchange for Venezuelan users on Hive.

This post presents some statistics for transfers to @orinoco since they started here in 2018. The first chart shows the total count of transfers to Orinoco from the start. The next two charts show only HBD and only HIVE transfers respectively.

The following charts show the HBD and HIVE values of these transactions, when we combine their amounts per day.

As we can see there was one day not long after the Hive exodus hard fork from Steem, in which quite a lot of Hive was transferred in one day. This outlier makes the HIVE value chart difficult to read, so here it is again starting the day after the outlier.

### Observations

The peak of use for Orinoco on Hive was in late 2021, which incidentally is about the same peak as  the number of posts tagged 'spanish' on Hive, in number and in payouts.

The Venezuelan community is by far the largest national community on Hive, and with the pressing need for Venezuelan expats to send money back to relatives at home, as well as for viable methods of earning within the country, there is massive potential for growth of Hive in Venezeula. However for now, Hive's growth in the country has stalled alongside the broader crypto market decline.
